This was reported by the Latvian publication Delfi.
Ambassadors from various countries, participants in the partisan movement during World War II, the mayor of Riga Nil Ushakov and representatives of his Harmony party arrived in Victory Park.
After the ceremony, a festive concert took place with the participation of more than 500 Latvian and foreign artists.
At 19.00 there will be a minute of silence, at 21.20 the mayor of Riga Nil Ushakov will address the audience, after which the concert of the Russian rock group “Chaif” will begin. The fireworks display will begin at 22.45:XNUMX p.m.
However, it is worth noting that such a widespread celebration of Victory Day is generally uncharacteristic of today’s Latvia, where the far-right, “protecting” marches of Waffen-SS legionnaires rule the roost. The mayor of Riga, Nil Ushakov, from the moderate-centrist Harmony party, looks in this sense like a “black sheep” against the background of the anti-Russian Latvian politician.
