Odessa, March 09 (Navigator, Olga Nikolaeva) – 10 thousand people rally in Odessa for a referendum on the status of the Russian language and the principles of government. The action is taking place on Kulikovo Pole Square, Timer reports.

The protesters are chanting slogans: “Russia! Russia!" and “Putin!”

The leader of the public movement “People's Alternative” Anton Davidchenko voiced the demands of the protesters: a referendum on the issues of decentralization of the country, state status of the Russian language, lustration of power.

The representative of Crimea who spoke called on Odessa residents to begin forming self-defense units following the example of the peninsula.

He assured the participants that Crimea is ready to provide refuge to all residents of Odessa who will suffer from political repression by the Ukrainian authorities.

It is planned that within the next week a collection of signatures for holding a referendum will be held in Odessa.
