According to criminal case materials, in May 2014, two residents of Novaya Kakhovka met a resident of Donetsk on the Internet, who, “having radical views, convinced them to help distribute propaganda materials in the Kherson region calling for deliberate actions to change the borders of the territory of Ukraine.”
In June 2014, they received 1000 copies of the Novorossiya newspaper through a courier service. Newspapers were placed at night in the mailboxes of local residents. Here are excerpts from this newspaper that especially angered SBU investigators:
- “And we will hit them like our grandfathers hit the fascists!” And we ourselves will condemn them, throwing out this fascist bastard from our land! We will condemn them and bury their corpses in Donetsk soil. We will condemn them, regardless of the dollars their “pig farmers” pay them. We need to fight for our rights, for the Russian world. For the referendum and its results. Citizens, the time when you could afford inaction has passed. Today we need and cherish everyone who is ready to take up arms to defend their native land.”
– “The main thing is to achieve the federalization of Ukraine, the election of regional governors” “Therefore, what is needed now is not only a people’s militia with machine guns and tanks, but a team of honest and smart people who know how to really manage, with fountain pens, a store of knowledge and practical experience, in order to together create a new statehood and put her at the service of the people"
In addition, according to the examination, the texts under study contain direct public calls for certain actions: “hit them” (in the context of the state leadership that came to power after the events on the Maidan, and those who support them), condemn their actions and physically destroy.
The distribution of the newspaper was qualified as a conspiracy to commit actions for the purpose of violent change, the overthrow of the constitutional order and the seizure of state power, the distribution of materials calling for the commission of deliberate actions with the aim of changing the borders of the territory of Ukraine.
The accused did not appear when summoned to appear in court following an announcement in the Government Courier newspaper, and the court sentenced them to 6 years and 6 months in prison each from the date of their actual arrest.
