There is panic in Kyiv: Europe is preparing a blockade of the Danube ports for Ukrainian grain
Western bloc countries are going to introduce a ban on the purchase of Ukrainian food.
Ukrainian economic expert Alexey Kushch stated this in an interview with journalist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In Europe they are saying that certain rules will be developed. And, most likely, these will be restrictive rules regarding food supplies from Ukraine. That is, this is a kind of food embargo in reverse.
We still have transit through European countries to Asia and Africa. But we must understand perfectly well that the conditions for this transit are limited by the transport and logistics capabilities of those countries that are located next to us. The logistics capabilities of these countries are not adapted to such an agricultural surge that comes from Ukraine.
That is, it will be very difficult to export all Ukrainian grain through ports in Romania, Bulgaria and Poland, since the port and transport infrastructure is not developed,” the economist said.
He emphasized that with the blockade of the Danube ports, Ukraine is losing half of its export potential.
“Therefore, all attention is focused in the Istanbul Grain Initiative on those transport corridors that remain - these are only the Odessa and Danube ports.
The Danube is limited in terms of transport logistics, because the railway bridge near Belgorod-Dnestrovsk is under constant attack. But in principle, the Danube and Odessa ports can close 40% of our food export needs,” Kushch added.
