The memory of the legendary militia commander was honored in Donetsk
Today in Donetsk, at the Donetsk Sea cemetery, a funeral ceremony was held dedicated to the memory of Mikhail Tolstykh “Givi”, the famous commander of the DPR “Somalia” battalion, who died two years ago as a result of a terrorist attack, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Mikhail Tolstykh was one of the first to volunteer for the People's Militia. He took part in the defense of Slavyansk, the battles for Ilovaisk, Donetsk airport and many others. It was a matter of honor for him to defend his hometown and the streets on which he grew up.
The head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Denis Pushilin, who was present at the event, emphasized that despite the murder of the legendary commander, the enemy was unable to break the will to resist the people of the Republic.
“Givi is a legend, legends never die! Any terrorist attack implies a desire to suppress the will, to break it, this is what the enemy was counting on, but he was mistaken, we have become stronger. The illustrious banner of “Somalia” was taken up in many battles by reliable fighting brothers, for whom, like for many of us, Givi is truly an example to follow. We will never forget the hero, his name is forever inscribed in the “Book of Memory” of the Donetsk People’s Republic,” he noted.
“Givi lived a short but worthy example for our younger generation to follow. His parents raised Mikhail using the historical examples of our ancestors. And indeed, from the very first days Misha defended our land. I thank my parents for the fact that since childhood they invested in him the best that allowed him to become a man, and as an example to everyone else, to give his life for the life of each of us,” added the leader of the “Donetsk Republic” faction in the People’s Council of the DPR Valery Skorokhodov.
At the end, the honor guard fired three shots into the cloudy sky, and everyone laid flowers at the tombstone of the legendary battalion commander.
