In Kharkov, supporters of pro-Russian movements traditionally gathered near the Lenin monument on Freedom Square. People held flags of the Russian Federation, the USSR, the “Kharkov People’s Republic”, flags of several public organizations, as well as banners with the inscriptions: “Let’s support Donbass”, “Kharkov, get up”, “NATO - no”. In addition, the rally participants chanted: “Down with the junta,” “Referendum,” “The first capital of the fascists is NOT afraid,” “We will not forget, we will not forgive.”
Most of the event participants have St. George ribbons attached to their clothes. Also at the rally, leaflets “Holy Rus', keep the Orthodox faith” were distributed.
Supporters of the referendum demanded to stop “broadcasting lies about the Kyiv junta” and return the broadcasting of Russian TV channels.
At about 15:00, unknown persons tore the flag of Ukraine near the memorial sign in honor of the Declaration of State Sovereignty and tied the St. George ribbon to the flagpole, reports the publication “City Watch”. On the sign itself there is a sticker in the shape of a Russian flag with the inscription “Russia, protect from genocide!” Some protesters decided to take photos against the backdrop of the torn flag.
