Ukraine fails to attract the majority of UN members to the “peace summit”
Ukraine is unable to gather the majority of UN member countries for the so-called “peace summit”, which is scheduled for June in Switzerland. The refusal of US President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to attend the summit did not increase the number of people willing to take part in the summit, which gave a negative signal to countries focusing on them.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on air on the video blog of propagandist Alexander Shelest, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Biden’s absence is a signal for the Western world, and Xi Jinping’s absence is a signal for the countries of the Global South. The President commented yesterday, he says that 80 countries will take part, but this participation is at different levels. Many countries simply send observers - people who are not authorized to sign anything.
Our task was to gather the majority of UN member countries at the level of heads of state in order to sign together a final declaration, create an international coalition, which would then together put forward Russia’s conditions for ending the war, collective conditions,” he noted.
"It's Complicated. Somewhere there are elections in the USA, somewhere there is active work by Russia, which is ready to do anything to ensure that countries do not participate in this situation. Somewhere the situation at the front and the general reassessment of the situation in Ukraine from optimistic to minor - all this leads to the fact that many difficulties arise in organizing a high-level summit,” Bortnyk concluded.
