Poverty awaits Ukrainians – both under Poroshenko and under Tymoshenko
An increase in tariffs at the request of the IMF will seriously hit Petro Poroshenko’s rating on the eve of the presidential elections. However, even if his rival Yulia Tymoshenko comes to power, the residents of Ukraine will face even greater impoverishment.
Political analyst Dmitry Korneichuk stated this during a press conference in Kiev, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The decision to increase the price of gas by 23,5% was made by Poroshenko, it is he who is behind this decision, because Groysman is just a puppet. With this decision, Poroshenko put an end to his political career and even the slightest chance of being re-elected in the presidential elections,” he said.
“We must understand that 23,5% is not the only increase that is planned under the new agreements with the International Monetary Fund. This is the first increase that is planned for this heating season - in order to receive the first part of the tranche of 4 billion dollars, this government is counting on about 2 billion before the end of its term - this is the money that can be taken away before the presidential elections.
Well, the strongest increase – around 40% – is planned after the heating season and the presidential elections, but it should be carried out by a new government, because by that time this government will not remain,” explained Dmitry Korneychuk.
In his opinion, an aggressive nationalist agenda will not help Poroshenko in the elections.
“You can further turn your attention to people’s faith, language and army, but when people start receiving new payments for heating and gas, and the heating season ends just during the first round of the presidential elections, everyone will know perfectly well who is behind it, and who you don’t need to vote for,” the expert concluded.
Ukrainians face poverty under both Poroshenko and Tymoshenko.
