The Ministry of Health of Ukraine changed nutritional standards for the first time in 18 years - an order from the Ministry of Health came into force, according to which the number of calories for children was reduced, and for adults the amount of proteins was increased and the amount of carbohydrates was reduced, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv department of the State Consumer Service.
Thus, the caloric intake of children and adolescents per day was reduced by 15% on average. Children are advised to eat less sweets (fast carbohydrates); for teenagers, the Ministry of Health advises to eat more proteins (meat) and less fat (especially lard and oil), as well as less carbohydrates - these are cereals, bread, sweets.
For the adult population, the department recommends reducing the consumption of carbohydrates per day (decreased by 50 grams), and, on the contrary, increasing protein (increased by 12 grams) and fats (increased by 15 grams).
The agency explains these changes by saying that the new standards are better balanced and more beneficial to health. The old nutritional standards, according to officials, were outdated and were overestimated in terms of carbohydrate consumption, which provoked overweight and obesity in children. Teenagers are recommended to eat more protein foods for better growth and muscle mass.
