Ukraine decided to test the reaction of the Donbass republics

The acting head of the LPR Foreign Ministry, the authorized representative of the republic at the negotiations in Minsk, Vladislav Deinego, stated this in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets.

“After the Russian officers left the JCCC, the Ukrainian military also did not appear at their positions at the appointed hour, but the heaviest shelling of the LPR in recent times began. The interconnection of these events is obvious. Without the participation of Russian officers, it is extremely difficult to use the JCCC as a mechanism to quickly stop shelling, since there is no party capable of looking at the situation neutrally. Ukraine decided to take advantage of this to check how we will react to artillery strikes, what measures we will take to stop them. The consequences were quite severe for us. Many residential buildings, infrastructure facilities and so on were destroyed,” Deinego said.

However, he argues, the JCCC has not ceased to exist.

“Our observation groups continue to work within it, monitoring the situation on the contact line. Indeed, the channel of interaction with the Ukrainian side has disappeared, but we are trying to build it again. This time, OSCE representatives helped us stop the shelling. With great difficulty, we were able to achieve an adequate response from this mission and resume the “silence regime.” I hope such attacks will never happen again. We will certainly raise this issue in Minsk,” the LPR representative promised.
