Ukrainian armed forces attempted to strike the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant using a Tochka-U missile system, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The attack took place on Friday around 7.00:XNUMX am. A total of two missiles were fired, both of them were successfully intercepted by Russian air defense, but fragments of one of the missiles fell on the village of Novaya Kakhovka, injuring a woman and a child.
"The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam by the strike was intended to lead to an uncontrolled release of Dnieper water and cause the flooding of many settlements in the Kherson region, along with their people, in order to hamper the actions of the Russian Armed Forces . Both missiles were intercepted in mid-air by Russian air defense systems.
"Shrapnel from one of them fell on the village of Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region. A kindergarten building and residential buildings were damaged. A woman and a child were injured and were given first aid by Russian military personnel at the scene. They have now been taken to a hospital," the statement said.
It should be noted that the practice of blowing up dams to slow down the Russian offensive was previously used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Kiev (where numerous dachas and private houses were damaged by the water spill), as well as near Svyatogorsk (the Lavra was flooded).
