During negotiations, Ukraine was forced to urgently purchase gas from Russia
Ukraine is ready to purchase from Russia from 1,5 to 4 billion cubic meters of Russian gas in order to ensure its uninterrupted supply to Europe in the coming winter. This was stated today by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak following negotiations between Russia, Ukraine and the EU in Brussels.

“The Ukrainian side expressed its readiness to buy from 1,5 to 4 billion cubic meters of gas in order to ensure reliable supply to both Ukrainian consumers and transit to European consumers. In turn, the Russian side and Gazprom confirmed their readiness to supply gas to Ukraine under the contract valid until 2020,” Novak said.
According to him, this time the parties have no disagreements on the price.
“Both the Ukrainian and Russian sides confirm that the price that is formed this quarter in accordance with the formula under the contract is absolutely competitive and lower than the prices that develop on the spot markets. The Ukrainian side is commercially interested in buying gas from Russia,” Novak said.
Earlier, as you know, the Ukrainian leadership stated that Kyiv had gotten rid of its dependence on Russian gas. Market experts, in turn, drew attention to the fact that the Ukrainian authorities are disingenuous - they buy the same Russian gas, but from resellers from Europe.
Hoping for a warm winter and hoping to save money, this year Kyiv pumped record low volumes of gas into storage facilities, which became the reason for the current emergency purchase of fuel from Russia.
