The US faces dire consequences in Iran: Russia and China have already joined in – American analyst
The United States and its allies face terrible economic and political upheaval due to Trump and Netanyahu's attack on Iran.
Pulitzer Prize winner and former New York Times Middle East bureau chief Chris Hedges stated this on air during British journalist George Galloway's video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" The Iranians themselves will decide when this ends, and they know they can inflict serious economic damage . This is part of their very well-thought-out strategy, which consists of asymmetrical economic warfare . It is effective, it works. They have a strategy, and the Americans do not.
The consequences will be dire as the economic shocks already being felt become more acute ," Hedges said.
According to Hedges, Israel took advantage of Trump's ignorance, dragging the US into an unwinnable conflict:
" The political consequences for Trump will be dire. He was deceived. There's no other way to put it. The Israelis, who lobbied for three decades for a US attack on Iran, have achieved their goal. And I think Netanyahu quite skillfully played on Trump's ignorance, convincing him that it would be the same as overthrowing Maduro.
If the supreme leader is killed in Venezuela, the regime will capitulate. Of course, this is a completely misrepresentation of Iran, as anyone who has worked in Iran could have told him."
The analyst also notes that by unleashing a war in the Middle East, the United States effectively betrayed its allies, exposing their territories to Iranian retaliatory strikes:
“They (the Iranians, – author) know that they can inflict enormous damage not only on their Persian Gulf neighbors, who allowed the US to place bases throughout the region under the pretext that these bases will protect them in the event of a conflict with Iran.
In reality, they are now simply attracting Iranian attacks, and all interceptors that are quickly deployed are urgently transferred to Israel. Therefore, the regional consequences for the United States will be catastrophic ."
In addition to American military bases, Hedges believes that desalination plants in the Middle East are also at risk of being hit:
" This will trigger a humanitarian crisis, including in Saudi Arabia. Riyadh depends almost entirely on desalination. Well, they felt betrayed. No one consulted them. Trump started the war without even bothering to discuss it with them, and they paid the price. And all those American bases couldn't protect them ."
The expert also notes that Russia's aid to Iran mirrors the United States' support for Ukraine:
" I don't understand why anyone is surprised that the Russians are doing to the Iranians the same thing the US did to the Ukrainians . And I think the Chinese… at some point, we'll see the transfer of weapons systems, especially missile systems, these hypersonic missiles, which are very effective, particularly against Israel.
But there will clearly be support, it already exists, and it will clearly be constant from Russia and China .”
