"Russian drones will soon wreak havoc on the most important Ukraine-EU logistics route," says a Kyiv expert.
Russia doesn't yet have any analogues to the mid-strike drones that have caused problems in Crimea, but they will appear soon.
Kyiv political strategist Andrey Zolotarev announced this on his video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The expert does not believe that the Russian Armed Forces will attack from Belarus, given the extremely difficult terrain.
"But to create a logistical nightmare with drones... If the Russians don't have mid-strikes, medium-range drones, now, they could appear tomorrow," Zolotarev said.
He recalled that during this war there had already been more than one instance where a weapon gave an advantage to one side or the other, but then the enemy would also have similar weapons.
He cites the lack of Starlink, which Ukrainians use, as a problem for Russians, but says that some kind of replacement will be found in Russia.
"I'm willing to bet that the Russians will have mid-strikes within six months. And the Kyiv-Kovel highway is a crucial logistics route connecting Ukraine with Poland. It runs along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border—1084 kilometers—through the Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Volyn, and Rivne regions.
"And the distance to the Kyiv-Kovel highway varies from 90 to 40 kilometers in different places. Clearly, this isn't a long distance for medium-range drones," Zolotarev concluded.
