Journalist and TV presenter Artyom Sheinin stated this on air at KP Radio , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"In January, it was fashionable to say, 'Look, they took all of Europe in 1418 days,' taking Berlin, while we—well, it's unfair to compare in that sense .' I responded to all these accountants, not just the armchair ones: no questions asked, just 1418 days—that's assuming how many people were at the front, where did they come from? No one was inviting them to sign up for contracts with money or advertisements in the metro; they turned 18—they shaved their heads off, the train, the front . Some were eager, some weren't.
And there were deserters, quite a few of them, and there were complaints against the Soviet government, some people went to serve in the police, and not everyone was forced to, everything was more complicated.
But nevertheless, I ask: are you prepared for yourself or your children, student or not, to shave their heads and go? You're not ready. And all sane people, not hype-mongers, are like, "Oh, right." You, demanding this, should understand whether you yourselves are ready for this. But are we really ready to be and become like we were then? I don't see any lines at the recruiting stations for contract soldiers," Sheinin said.
Host Ivan Pankin asked for clarification on what is more needed in the current situation: a truck full of volunteers or a truck full of drones?
" A truck with drones . In a broad sense, what's more important to us now than hitting the enemy is the technical component ," the journalist replied.
