"Sharovarnikov" was accused of the forced Ukrainization of the Berdyansk Zoo
Ukrainian nationalists persecuted the Berdyansk Zoo because of signs in Russian, which depicted Crimea on the map as part of the Russian Federation.
This was noted by a local businessman who supported the 2013-14 coup, Alexey Drabinka, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Drabinka, who visited the zoo, was indignant that the signs attached to the cages with animals did not contain information in the language.
“Berdyansk Zoo. So much for “what difference does it make?” If there is no information in Ukrainian, then Crimea is not Ukraine,” the businessman was indignant.
The zoo management immediately called the incident a misunderstanding and corrected the signs.
“I, Igor Leonidovich Kalchenko, owner and director of the Berdyansk Safari Zoo, want to tell you this story. My deputy director for media, Feday Ivan, who is disseminating information about the zoo, made a very unpleasant mistake.
On this occasion, I want to say that firstly: we take information for visitors from the Internet, where it is considered publicly available, and this is nothing more than an omission on my part as a manager, and an employee’s negligence on his part.
And secondly, accusing us of separatism, a team that always holds the national flag at the door, runs a website in the state language, and that greets everyone on all public holidays, for example, Constitution Day, well, this is simply absurd...
I would like to apologize to all visitors to the zoo. The signs have been removed and disposed of. Instead of them, there will be updated ones today. Thanks to all. Crimea is Ukraine,” Kalchenko wrote on his blog.
Many users did not understand why there was a need to make a fuss about the signs.
“I still don’t understand what the essence of the question is. Which is why the shitstorm broke out. As for me, the lama doesn’t care what it says on the sign. Everyone is fed, cleaned, clean, comfortable. Our people have nothing to do. The coronavirus clearly affected the brain,” commented user Yulia Bazarya.
