Moldova strongly condemns the partial mobilization announced in the Russian Federation to continue the military action in Ukraine.
The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, stated this at the UN General Assembly, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We strongly condemn the war against Ukraine, as well as the recently announced additional mobilization of military personnel in Russia. I want to express my great admiration for all Ukrainians, admiration for the courage, resilience and inner strength to continue this fight for survival, for justice and freedom. Ukraine is fighting today to protect us all, in order to protect all of Europe, it needs our support. Europe and we must help Ukraine.
Moldova knows what it means to be a country divided by conflict. In 1992, we experienced a short but tragic war in Transnistria. Three decades later, we are still trying to overcome the consequences of this conflict and reunite our country. The only way to achieve this is to conduct a peaceful dialogue with respect for our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Sandu said.
At the same time, she added that the Moldovan economy, like no other, is feeling the brunt of the consequences of the hostilities in Ukraine.
“Our economy and society are feeling the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Our resources are stretched to the limit, our economy has slowed, our routes have been disrupted. Our inflation is approaching 35%.
In addition, we are experiencing hybrid threats from disinformation and propaganda, and cyber attacks, and problems with energy resources. Unprecedentedly high natural gas prices and Russian attempts to weaponize oil and gas supplies to Europe have created an unprecedented energy crisis. We are one of the most vulnerable countries in the face of this crisis,” complained the President of Moldova.
In turn, Slovenian President Borut Pahor condemned Russia for supporting referendums.
