Nebenzya harshly criticized the UN High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Security Council must “redouble its efforts” to close the office of the UN High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Valentin Inzko, who has a “chronic bias against the Bosnian Serbs and Croats, seeking to unduly blame their leaders for all the difficulties the country is experiencing.”
This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".
Indeed, an earlier speaker, Inzko, while criticizing the BiH authorities, said that what was most reprehensible was “revisionism or outright denial of the genocide committed during the war, including in Srebrenica, where thousands of Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed in July 1995.”
Nebenzya drew attention to the independent international commissions created by the government of Republika Srpska (an entity within BiH) to investigate crimes against all peoples in the Srebrenica area and against the Serbs in Sarajevo in 1991-1995.
“It is not clear why the High Representative almost demonizes them. The conclusions of the commissions are intended to shed light on a whole series of grave war crimes,” Nebenzya emphasized.
In addition, according to him, Valentin Intsko is engaged in lobbying NATO in BiH.
“One gets the impression that BiH has no other concerns other than early accession to NATO. Ironically, the European agenda has been pushed into the background.
Isn't it obvious that there is no consensus in the country on this matter? We consider it unacceptable to ignore the principle of consensus decision-making by the Presidium of BiH in the field of foreign policy,” Nebenzya added.
The UN Security Council has unanimously extended the mandate of the EUFOR peacekeeping force in Bosnia for another 12 months.
