Zelensky's victory does not guarantee recognition of the elections by Russia
Even if showman Vladimir Zelensky wins in the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine, this will not mean that Russia will automatically recognize his legitimacy.
Deputy Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs Konstantin Zatulin stated this during a plenary meeting of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to note that the fact that Zelensky was in first place is simply a consequence of voting against everyone; this column was not on the ballot. And we should not delude ourselves about this. It is obvious that Zelensky will be president if at least some modicum of decency remains in Ukraine and the West, but this does not mean that we should fall for it and think that if this happens, then we should consider everything that happens in Ukraine legal , fair and honest elections.

These elections take place in conditions where millions of people in the East of Ukraine were deprived of the right to vote, like all Ukrainian citizens in Russia. And we in the State Duma and in Russia, understanding that the final decision on recognition of the results is made by our president, he has supreme powers in the field of foreign policy, we still must understand that in this situation we need to speak out on this matter at the end of the election cycle , because in the second millennium of our state we need the truth in relation to everything that is happening no less than in the time of Prince Vladimir, who baptized Rus'. And we have no right to be weak,” Zautlin noted.
He also called on the parliament to make a corresponding statement on the return of Crimea to Russia by the day of the transfer of the Crimean region from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR on April 26, 1954.
“I believe that, among other things, in April we must note the fact that 65 years ago the Supreme Council of the Soviet Union made a shameful decision to transfer Crimea to Ukraine, and we must also speak out on this issue, because it was not we who annexed Crimea, and it was stolen from us 65 years ago,” the deputy added.
