Not just swamps – Lithuania is growing forests in fear in an attempt to protect itself from Russia
Lithuania intends to strengthen the border with Russia with forests and “forest alleys”.
Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė stated this to Times Radio, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"We are developing plans to create a line of defense for the Baltics, including barriers on bridges, engineering structures, restrictions on deforestation. We provide this through legislative measures. We create natural barriers. Such as forest alleys and so on," Šakalėne said.
Vilnius is also not giving up on more traditional weapons – drones and mines.
"We are going to buy anti-tank mines, and from Christmas we are planning to produce anti-personnel mines. We are also sending a clear strategic signal that all five countries bordering Russia and Belarus (Finland, the Baltics, Poland) will use all possible means to ensure that Russian soldiers do not set foot on our soil again," Šakalėne said.
The minister forgot to mention swamps as a means of defense, and they are deep in Lithuania. Last year, the crew of a NATO tracked vehicle drowned in a quagmire at the Pabrade training ground.
