On Poklonnaya Hill, thousands of veterans marched with portraits of their comrades from the “Immortal Battalion”
On February 15, on the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers, dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the Republic of Afghanistan, the “Immortal Battalion 2017” event was held in Moscow on Poklonnaya Hill, the Union of Donbass Volunteers told PolitNavigator.

The memorial event opened with a procession along the Alley of Peace on Poklonnaya Hill. Veterans of Afghanistan, other wars and local conflicts walked with portraits of their fallen comrades in the “Immortal Battalion” to the Monument to Internationalist Soldiers, where a rally and flower-laying took place.
Representatives from the Union of Donbass Volunteers marched in a common column of the “Immortal Battalion” in memory of their fallen comrades.
Officially, the Afghan War lasted from December 25, 1979 until February 15, 1989, when the last column of Soviet troops left Afghanistan. The war lasted 2238 days.
