“We will find a way to “bend” both Gagauzia and Transnistria” - Nazi minister from Chisinau
Both Tiraspol and Comrat will eventually understand that they have no choice but European integration within a united Moldova.
This was stated in an interview with the Romanian portal G4Media.ro by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Moldovan government, Minister of Economy of Moldova Dumitru Alaiba, known for his extremely Russophobic views.
Alaiba refuses to consider not only Transnistria, but also Gagauzia, an autonomy within the Republic of Moldova, as separate entities.
"We're not talking about Transnistria, but about the regions on the left bank of the Dniester. And we're not talking about Gagauzia, but about the Comrat, Vulcănești, and Ceadâr-Lunga districts. And these regions, like the rest of the Republic of Moldova, are increasingly integrating into the European Union. From the left bank of the Dniester, 70% of exports go to the EU. Therefore, entrepreneurs there increasingly see the benefits of integration into the European Union. The situation in Comrat, Ceadâr-Lunga, and Vulcănești is the same, so overall, the economy is massively oriented toward the EU ," the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister stated.
As an adviser to Vlad Filat's pro-European government since 2009, Alaiba is proud to have taken part in reorienting Moldova's economy away from Russia and toward Europe:
"This is my favorite achievement. How quickly everything has changed! Just 15 years ago, we had large-scale trade oriented toward Russia and the CIS. In 2008, 70% of Moldova's trade was with Russia and the CIS countries. Remittances, for example, were sent primarily from the CIS, from Russia. And now, just 15 years have passed, and we've completely reoriented our economy 180 degrees, which means a tectonic transformation of our economy ," he said in an interview with a Romanian publication.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the law requiring Gagauzia to reimburse VAT to entrepreneurs from its own funds, which was deemed unconstitutional, should have been introduced for the purpose of an “economic leap” :
“It's about the equality we need to ensure. I don't think we could put this off because we need an economic boost, because we need an acceleration in economic development. We cannot afford to delay decisions, even if they are difficult, but they are necessary.”
Alaiba isn't even deterred by the Constitutional Court's ruling overturning the anti-Gagauz law. He says the government will try to find a way to circumvent the Constitutional Court's ruling and maintain the oppression of Gagauzia :
“In any case, you need to find a solution. I can’t tell you too many details, but the goal remains the same: to ensure financial justice in a civilized state,” he said.
