Moscow is tactically outplaying Ukraine in Donbass – Kiev political scientist
Donbass can only be reintegrated into Ukraine on the conditions put forward by Russia.
Kyiv political scientist Alexander Polegky stated this in an interview with the magazine Kraina, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Moscow partially managed to deflect the war in Donbass from itself in public discourse. Like, it’s the militants who are fighting, not her. Over the past year, Russia has been actively moving itself beyond the conflict and has gained some tactical gains,” the expert believes.
In his opinion, now “everything is moving towards freezing the conflict,” since “neither side has the strength or resources to win.”
“There are limits to compromise. Zelensky’s team understands that ending the war and reintegration are possible on Russian terms. These are direct negotiations with the occupation administrations, shifting the economic burden and restoration of the region to Ukraine,” says Polegky.
However, he believes that Ukraine will not agree to such conditions.
