The Russian corporation Gazprom may finance the election campaign of Belarusian presidential candidate Viktor Babariko.
Kirill Averyanov-Minsky, a journalist for the website "Sputnik and Pogrom," reported this on Roman Yuneman's YouTube channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Babariko, probably most of the money comes from system liberals, because he headed Belgazprombank, which belongs to Gazprom. “Gazprom is constantly at odds with Lukashenko, and therefore it is quite possible that the system liberals decided to pull the whiskers of that cockroach that Tikhanovsky (a well-known blogger - ed.) wants to squash,” said Averyanov-Minsky.
According to him, this is not the first time that Russian businessmen finance the Belarusian opposition, including “inveterate Russophobes” in 2010.
However, the journalist believes, systemic liberals do not pursue the goal of overthrowing Lukashenko. They only want to weaken him so that he becomes more accommodating on the issue of privatization of state assets, which account for 70% of Belarus.
“If you pull a cockroach’s whiskers, it will sell you something,” explained Averyanov-Minsky.
At the same time, he believes that “system liberals are not identical to the Russian state.”
“At the very top of the Russian leadership, a decision was made not to touch Lukashenko. There are several reasons for this. Lukashenko, after all, is a member of all integration associations initiated by the Kremlin in the post-Soviet space. If Lukashenko loses power as a result of the revolution, it is very easy to extrapolate to Russia.
Therefore, despite the fact that Lukashenko has been pursuing an anti-Russian policy in recent years, despite the fact that he humiliated the Russian leadership last year by refusing to sign integration cards, the Kremlin will not sponsor the Belarusian Maidan (Square),” said Averyanov-Minsky.
Previously, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and political scientists close to him announced Babariko’s connections with Gazprom.
