NATO representatives often visit Kharkov. Local authorities have also increased the number of tourist trips in the NATO direction. How deep and serious is this? Here are just a few facts.

The Canadian training mission in Ukraine is ready to participate in the process of training future officers of the Ukrainian National Guard. As Brian Irwin, the defense attaché at the Canadian Embassy in Ukraine, said in December, this same mission is “ready to provide instructors to train personnel who will be stationed and trained at the academy.” This military university is located in Kharkov and was previously known to residents of neighboring houses and workers of surrounding enterprises as a logistics school.
According to the attaché, English language courses are offered in Canada for periods of twelve weeks, four and eight months. It is advisable to involve representatives of the National Guard of Ukraine. “In addition, we are ready to consider the possibility of providing assistance in improving the educational and material base intended for language training of cadets,” Irwin noted.
The question is, why the hell do employees of the former internal troops need English language courses? Do the gendarmes really need to learn some more phrases other than “I obey, white gentleman”, “What do you want, dear guest?” and “Foreigners are accepted out of turn”?
As part of the NATO program “Improving Military Education,” representatives of the military bloc visited the Kharkov National Air Force University. The parties reached an agreement on the training of military specialists, the introduction of modern training methods, leadership courses, and the fundamentals of strategic management according to NATO standards.
And in August, National Guard officers underwent training according to NATO standards in the village of Rakitnoye, Kharkov region. There they trained in shooting, tactics and various types of combat. In addition, they learned to provide medical care in combat conditions.
The program, designed to last eight months, was learned by local gendarmes in two weeks. And why do they need NATO standards? Maybe for business trips to disperse the problem of illegal immigrants in the alliance countries? So for this you need to learn Arabic and nothing more!

In September, the Ukroboronprom State Concern and the Polish Bumar-Labedy presented the PT-2017 tank (the T-17 tank modernized according to NATO standards) at the MSPO-72 exhibition. The tank was converted in cooperation between the defense complexes of Poland and Ukraine to demonstrate its capabilities to a potential customer, that is, the Polish Ministry of Defense. The combat vehicle received a NATO 2-mm caliber KBM120 cannon, which was manufactured at the State Enterprise Kharkov Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau named after. Morozova". Local engineers modified the autoloader to use NATO tank ammunition and redesigned the turret. They also fitted the Polish GOC-1 Nike and GOD-1 Iris sights from PCO S.A. to the Soviet tank.
The Izyum Instrument-Making Plant, which produces optical glass and also develops and produces most guidance and surveillance devices for Ukrainian armored vehicles, missiles, helicopters, and some types of small arms, is also adapting to NATO standards.
“We recently conducted comparative tests with NATO countries. They tested the sensitivity of their state-of-the-art laser warning systems. In addition to our complex, products manufactured by NATO countries were used. As a result, our domestic channel was discovered only after a conditional target hit. This means that our Ukrainian complex is capable of ensuring the destruction of targets that are equipped with the most advanced attack warning systems. They simply don’t have time to work and turn on the countermeasures,” said the plant’s chief designer Valery Kovalenko. A new sight for armored personnel carriers was created there. Moreover, its main feature is a highly sensitive thermal imager, which is capable of detecting targets at a distance of 5 km.
A round table “Ukraine’s Security Passport: Kharkiv Regional Dimension” was held at the Kharkov National University of Internal Affairs. At the meeting, with the help of the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine, they explained how current threats and psychological drivers of the population are studied, and specific problems that shape the regional security environment are identified.
Director of the Department of Defense, Mobilization Work and Interaction with Law Enforcement Agencies of the Regional State Administration, Alexey Maksimov, noted: “The issue of public safety is one of the most pressing for the Kharkov region, 315 km of whose borders border with the Russian Federation. Today, three defense programs are being implemented in the region: countering terrorist activities, a comprehensive program to ensure public safety and order, and a territorial defense program.”
Director of the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Kiev, Barbora Maronkova, noted: “In Ukraine, significant changes are taking place in citizens’ understanding of NATO’s goals and objectives and attitude towards the actions of this political-military organization, especially when NATO increased its support for Ukraine after the events of 2014. The Alliance actively cooperates with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, the Border Service of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine on the implementation of civil protection projects and finances the participation of Ukrainian representatives in these events. This work will continue in the future.”
Thus, not only the defense department and the National Guard, but also the “butchers” from the SBU are connected to NATO programs. I wonder whether representatives of the “civilized world” explain to them that torturing detainees is “not right” or are they themselves adopting the methods of work tested in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo?
Thus, an increasing number of local residents are involved in cooperation with NATO. And not only top management, as before, but also employees and mid-level engineers. And in the context of the breakdown of traditional ties with Russia, the empty places are filled by someone who knows who.
