Head of the European Parliament: if necessary, we will call for the release of Savchenko
The European Parliament will monitor the development of the situation with the detention of Nadezhda Savchenko and may call for her release, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the head of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, at a press conference within the framework of the summit of EU heads of state.
“We'll see what happens. We will have to (look - ed.) at what the facts are, and then, if necessary, we will call for her release," he said.
Earlier today, Savchenko was stripped of his parliamentary immunity. Deputies also authorized her detention and arrest.
After this, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko signed and announced the suspicion of Savchenko in the presence of a lawyer. It is expected that the trial to select Savchenko as a preventive measure will take place tomorrow, March 23, and Nadezhda Savchenko will spend the night in the SBU pre-trial detention center.
