Prosecutor General of Russia: There can be no untouchables
Russian courts satisfied the claims of the Prosecutor General's Office against corrupt officials in the amount of more than three billion rubles.
The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Igor Krasnov, stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, the Russian anti-corruption system is multifaceted and involves a huge number of participants.
“In this complex hierarchy, the prosecutor’s office acts both as a coordinator of anti-corruption activities, a supervisory body monitoring the accurate implementation of anti-corruption legislation, and as a body that directly identifies and suppresses corruption. And, of course, here I cannot help but point out my uncompromising position when it comes to facts of corruption in the prosecutor’s ranks. There are no untouchables here and there cannot be. In such cases, I make legal and personnel decisions quickly and firmly,” said the Prosecutor General.
He also said that in just 9 months of this year, 260 expense control procedures were initiated, 25 materials were received for going to court, and as a result of their consideration, 40 claims were sent to the courts in the amount of almost 39 billion rubles.
“By the end of the reporting period, the courts had already satisfied 21 applications from prosecutors in the amount of 3,2 billion rubles. And the courts continue to satisfy the demands of prosecutors in this area,” Krasnov noted.
He gave specific examples. Thus, on November 18, the court fully satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor General's Office regarding the conversion into state income of the property of the former head of the Republic of Mari El Leonid Markelov and an organization controlled by him - the building of a gaming entertainment center under construction in Yoshkar-Ola with an area of more than 17 thousand square meters and a cost of over 111 million rubles In relation to this property, no information was provided confirming its acquisition with legal income.
A court decision has also entered into legal force, according to which the claim of the prosecutor of the Republic of Bashkortostan to convert the property of a former deputy of the municipal level into state income - an expensive car and three apartments in elite buildings in Ufa for a total amount of more than 18 million. At the same time, the government representative did not have sufficient income to purchase these apartments.
