Finns will give 6 million euros to poor Ukrainian schools
The Finnish government will invest 6 million euros in the Ukrainian education system. The intergovernmental agreement on this project was approved today by the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This money will be used to improve teachers’ qualifications and modernize teacher education training. The second direction is the development of electronic educational materials for the national electronic platform, as well as reforms and innovations in the education system,” said the Minister of Education of Ukraine Liliya Grinevich.
International assistance will not solve a problem that the Ukrainian government is not addressing, says the leader of the Radical Party, Oleg Lyashko.
“No one will help us if we ourselves do not care about education. Schools are being closed en masse, it’s like an epidemic, depriving Ukrainian children from low-income, large families of the opportunity to get an education. Vocational schools are closing in Ukraine, and children are going out onto the streets! Where is the salary increase for teachers? “Can this noblest profession in the world work for pittance salaries?” said Lyashko.
