“Fakes are small things” – an expert told senators about information wars
Information wars must be distinguished from information campaigns and the activities of bloggers, correspondents and clarification of relationships in the information space. This is a special type of armed conflict in which the conflict between the parties takes place in the form of information operations using malicious technologies called “information weapons.” Information wars are waged only by special services and intelligence services. The operations are not aimed at public opinion, but against decision makers.
Andrei Manoylo, professor of the Department of Russian Politics at the Faculty of Political Science at Moscow State University, spoke about this on "Expert Time" at the plenary session of the Federation Council, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Fakes are not operations or actions, or even attacks. Fakes are a special, highly specialized tool for influencing the human psyche. Compared to classic information operations, fakes are small things,” Manoilo said.
The expert claims that fakes make up 1% of the total volume of propaganda conducted using classical methods. They are used to divert enemy forces and assets capable of resisting information warfare methods to an unusable target.
“If we throw all our energy into exposing fakes, this means that 99% of our perimeter turns out to be defenseless and without cover. And Western intelligence agencies can freely conduct their special operations without encountering resistance,” Manoilo said.
He believes that Ukraine skillfully uses the enemy’s infrastructure, forcing Russian media to reproduce and circulate its fakes. Whether it follows from the words of the “professor of political science” that we need to stop exposing the enemy’s lies, for example, about Butch, remains unclear.
