Maidan was not at all a peaceful rally of ordinary citizens - trained stormtroopers beat and shot well-equipped and trained fighters of the Berkut special forces.
The lawyer of the ex-Berkut members, Alexander Goroshinsky, stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“How many of you know that during the so-called “beating of students” (November 29-30, 2014 – approx. ed.) 18 law enforcement officials were injured? These law enforcement representatives are a special unit equipped with personal protective equipment. Tell me, did the students have the opportunity to beat the special forces?” – he noted.
Goroshinsky said that during the Maidan, many law enforcement officers received gunshot wounds; in total, there were more than a thousand injured Berkut officers.
“Secondly, when you talk about February 18, 2014, you are talking about a peaceful rally near the Maidan. Tell me, does anyone know that on this day 133 law enforcement officers received gunshot wounds? How many of you know that on February 20, from 5.30 to 9.00 in the morning, that is, in less than five hours, 39 law enforcement officers received gunshot wounds, and four of them died? Did you know that during the Maidan period more than a thousand law enforcement officers were injured?” – the lawyer added.
