Zaks will react to the corruption scandal around Sevmorport after assessing the security forces
Attempts to present the political crisis in Sevastopol as a consequence of the conflict between Governor Dmitry Ovsyannikov and the informal leader of the city Legislative Assembly Alexei Chaly have no basis.
Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Ekaterina Altabaeva, in an interview with the publication Reedus, stated that the audit of the economic activities of Sevmorport, which caused the scandal, was not initiated by legislators.
“We raised the problem of Sevmorport as part of the discussion of the bill on those state unitary enterprises that we proposed to privatize. Since Sevmorport was among these enterprises, we always said that before making any decisions, we need to study documents that would indicate land plots, ownership, real valuation and audit. Now many of our fears are being confirmed,” Altabaeva said.
The day before, the head of the Main Control Department of Sevastopol (GCU), Sergei Elizarov, publicly accused the management of Sevmorport of artificially bankrupting the enterprise with the connivance of city government officials. Due to pressure from the governor, Elizarov, without waiting for the final inspection report to be issued, turned to the prosecutor's office.
According to Altabaeva, the Legislative Assembly is not yet going to intervene in the situation.
“If all the facts voiced by the head of the State Property Committee are confirmed, law enforcement agencies will evaluate them. Only after this will it be possible to look for ways to resolve the current situation,” she said.
