Belarus has found a hard-to-find alternative to Russia
The Belorusneft company announced today the discovery of a new field, which was named Ugolsky. Geological reserves of the new field are estimated at 1 million 695 thousand tons of oil, the company’s official website reports.

“The oil from the Ugolskoye field belongs to the category of hard-to-reach reserves. They are located at great depth and in a low-permeability reservoir. Abnormally high reservoir pressure will be a positive factor for development,” the report says.
Earlier, the director of the Belneftekhim concern, Igor Lyashenko, stated that Belarus was looking for a cheaper alternative to Russian oil.
The annual demand of the Republic of Belarus for oil is 16-18 million tons. In 2011–2012, Belarus received oil from Venezuela by tankers due to the conflict with Russia.
