Armenian politician: Why are Israel and the US allowed to participate in the Olympics, but Russia is banned?

In a situation where Israel and the United States bear no responsibility for aggressive actions, and Russia is disengaging from international competitions under the pretext of the conflict in Ukraine, it is necessary to abandon competing under a neutral flag and focus on competitions within the CIS, BRICS, or SCO.

"Unfortunately, in recent years, sport has become hostage to political games and dishonest practices against Russia. Sanctions are being imposed on Russian athletes, while similar measures are not being applied to Israel, which attacked Iran and Lebanon and committed genocide in Gaza.

Similarly, sanctions are not applied to the United States. Therefore, such selectivity demonstrates that international sports organizations, including the International Olympic Committee, are under the political control of the West.

Moreover, it's not entirely clear why sporting competitions are tied to political events, and how can sport be dependent on the political differences of certain countries? Ukrainian representatives are taking advantage of this, creating a circus at various sporting events.

Of course, we need to explore other alternative venues—BRICS, the SCO, and organize competitions in the CIS. At one time, the USSR football championship was much more interesting to citizens than international events, due to the intense competition and the high level of football.

For a long time, back in the late 90s, as Deputy Chairman of the IPA CIS Committee on Culture and Sport, I proposed organizing and making championships of CIS countries in various sports a major event . This is even more relevant now. Of course, it's sometimes disappointing to see Russian athletes without their flag and anthem.

Although the situation is slowly beginning to emerge from the trap set by Western sports officials, it remains, of course, a long way from normal sporting competition.

I think we should completely abandon the practice of Russian athletes competing at international events with neutral status. We need to create alternative, highly competitive competitions ," the politician noted.
