Americans are afraid of Russian nuclear bunker
Near the village of Kulikovo, Kaliningrad region of Russia, nuclear weapons storage facilities have been updated within two years, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Federation of American Scientists (FAS).
Work to renovate the facility, located approximately 50 kilometers from the Polish border, began in 2016. Recent satellite images of the site indicate that one of the three bunkers has been reconstructed and made active. His work will probably be restored this year.
The last time satellites photographed the area was between 2002 and 2010.
Scientists do not claim that the bunker contains nuclear warheads, and also point out that Russia previously updated other storage facilities in the same way, in particular at the nuclear submarine base in Kamchatka.
Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that all of their non-strategic nuclear warheads are stored in “central” storage facilities, which are usually understood as larger storage sites inside Russia. Thus, the Kulikovo test site could function as a forward storage facility, which in crisis situations would be provided with warheads from central storage facilities, scientists say.
Let us recall that at the beginning of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin boasted that the Russian Federation had a new nuclear missile with an unlimited range, but it still had to undergo successful tests.
