Results of reforms: crime detection rates have fallen catastrophically in Ukraine

As a result of police reform in Ukraine, the crime detection rate in 2016 was less than 30%.

This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko during a meeting on the results of the department’s work in 2016.

“The situation with the detection of crimes: in 2013, 45% of the crimes recorded were solved, in 2014 – 44%, in 2015 – 39%. This is, in principle, normal, the European norm is about 40%. But last year – less than 30% of the total number of crimes,” he noted.

According to Lutsenko, the lowest crime detection rate in 2016 was in Kyiv - 16% and Odessa - 20%, as well as in the Kharkov region - 22%, Zaporozhye region - 23% and in the Kiev region - 24%.

Lutsenko also said that in most regions of Ukraine the crime situation is of serious concern. According to him, the main reasons for the increase in the crime situation are the war in the country, unemployment, and disorganization of law enforcement agencies.
