The Iron Dome will not protect against Russian missiles, but it is necessary to take it – and more of it
The Israeli Iron Dome missile defense system is capable of shooting down only “homemade” missiles launched by Palestinians into Israeli territory, and can also be effective against kamikaze drones, but not against modern missile systems of the Russian Armed Forces.
The participants of the broadcast on the Ya-UA TV channel spoke about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The “Iron Dome” (an Israeli tactical missile defense system designed to protect against unguided tactical missiles with a flight range of 4 to 70 kilometers – ed.) cannot protect the entire territory of Ukraine from any missile. I agree with this, not from any missile. And the Israeli journalist correctly said that the “iron dome” has a specific purpose, it is precisely from this small rubbish that is aimed at Israeli territory.
That is, we know that the Palestinians launch a lot of self-propelled rockets, those that are homemade, and launch similar drones that Iran is now producing. These are slow-moving, low-flying targets, and the Iron Dome is aimed at them,” said the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine, ex-judge of the Constitutional Court Viktor Shishkin.
Kupol, for example, cannot block Iskander or other missiles that are in service with the Russian armed forces. Yes, they need “Patriot” (American anti-missile system - ed.), old Soviet systems, and other structures,” added Shishkin.
In turn, the vice-president of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, Ivan Petukhov, objected that we must take everything that is given.
We need the Iron Dome in large volumes, much larger than we already have. Indeed, it can protect, but we must understand that the territory of Israel and the territory of Ukraine are different. This doesn't mean we should give up. We must take advantage of every opportunity when something is offered and given to us. Because there can never be too many weapons or technical equipment,” Petukhov blabbered.
