Wasserman: Neither the Germans nor the Balts want to support Ukraine at their own expense
The Donald Trump administration's desire to shift the burden of the Ukrainian conflict onto Europe will result in a reduction in financial handouts to Kyiv.
State Duma deputy Anatoly Wasserman expressed this opinion on the air of the First Sevastopol channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Trump is going to increase other countries' defense spending. But how will he achieve this? After all, a decision by these countries themselves is still needed. It seems to me that it will be quite difficult to achieve these decisions - even from such American-minded people as the current leaders of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. And to achieve such dedication in all senses from Germany, which has already experienced what interaction with the United States costs in the literal financial sense of the word, will, in my opinion, be very difficult. So it will most likely be possible to shift the costs of Ukraine to Europe, but these costs will be reduced accordingly," Wasserman said.
He also does not believe in an economic boom in the US under Trump.
"He sets himself the goal of restoring and even increasing the power of the United States of America (USA) in the way it was originally acquired, that is, by maximizing the development of its own production. The goal is undoubtedly good in many respects. But he will not achieve his former power for the reason that our president has spoken about more than once: a market vacated by one manufacturer is immediately occupied by others. And restoring one's place in the market is usually even more difficult than winning it in the first place. And how Trump will act when faced with obstacles on the intended path - in my opinion, even Trump himself does not yet know," the deputy said.
