The deputy head of Crimean customs was sent under house arrest
The deputy head of the Crimean customs was placed under house arrest on suspicion of embezzling more than 3,5 million rubles during the fictitious renovation of a customs post building in Yevpatoria.
The head of the company that carried out the repairs, according to the documents, is also involved in the case along with the customs officer, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
It was established that the contract for the major renovation of the building in Yevpatoria was signed in March 2021. Construction control at the site was carried out by Technical Supervision Service JSC. There were no acts of acceptance of the work performed, but this did not prevent the deputy head of customs - the head of the logistics department from signing documents and paying for work under the government contract for more than 3,5 million rubles.
The fact of fraudulent repairs was discovered by the customs anti-corruption department. The FSB department and the Main Directorate of the Sledkom got involved. The customs officer and his accomplice were detained and searches were carried out at their home and work.
“Confessions were obtained from the defendants; during interrogations, they reported in detail about all illegal actions. Taking into account these circumstances, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest,” the Investigative Committee clarified.
The actions of the deputy head of customs are qualified as abuse of official powers causing grave consequences (clause “c” of Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the head of a commercial contractor company is suspected of fraud committed by a person using his official position on an especially large scale (ch 4 Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Both face up to 10 years in prison. The criminal investigation continues.
