“End this nonsense with Japan! – stop negotiations on the Kuril Islands!”
Russia needs to stop any discussion in negotiations with Japan of a possible change in the status of the Kuril Islands. As soon as Russia makes concessions, a “Pandora’s box” will open around the disputed lands throughout the Russian Federation.
The leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov stated this during a meeting of the State Duma, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation in the Kuril Islands is absolutely unacceptable. We need to stop keeping silent. The issue was resolved on September 2, 1945, complete unconditional surrender.
The Germans do not make any claims against us. Why back down here?
At one time, Molotov wrote: “As soon as we open this Pandora’s box, there will be a great tragedy.” Everyone will climb. Some are behind Kaliningrad, others are behind the Karelian Isthmus, others say: “Let’s go to Siberia, the main resources are there, why does Russia own them?”
