In a month and a half, the Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed 50% of the generation remaining in Ukraine - Kharchenko
Since April 2024, the Russian army has changed tactics and began to launch more focused attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
The director of the Ukrainian Center for Energy Research, Alexander Kharchenko, stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We can clearly divide the [Russian Aerospace Forces] strategy into two parts – what happened before April 20, 2024, and what happened after. Before that, they focused on high-voltage network objects, and dealt broad blows to the generation, simultaneously targeting many objects. But overall they were not very successful.
They realized this and changed their tactics. We're lucky this didn't happen a few months earlier; it took them time. And after April 20 of this year, they began launching very focused and powerful strikes, with large numbers of missiles, against individual power generation facilities ," Kharchenko said.
"Such massive strikes penetrated the defenses, especially since Ukraine was experiencing a significant shortage of air defense systems due to supply delays. And ultimately, these strikes were successful, destroying 50% of the generation capacity available to us before April 20 of this year."
That is, half of the generation is gone. Although there was a shortage, we got through this winter with the import of electricity. But in principle, we balanced between the need to limit consumers and the availability of electricity. And when 50% of the generation that was available to us was destroyed, we are now in a very difficult situation,” the expert concluded.
