“Vučić is more powerful today than Tito” – Babakov
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic negotiates with Europe not as a supplicant, but as a leader defending the interests of his people.
State Duma deputy Alexander Babakov stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Soloviev.live," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“When we hear reproaches from opponents that Vucic wants to get to Europe by any means, he laughs at it. He says: I am negotiating with them because I am in Europe. But he speaks to them not as a pleading party, but as a party that respects its own position, which will never make concessions on issues that will harm the interests of its own people. And when he says this, he always refers to our president,” Babakov said.
According to him, EU countries are now using Serbia’s position on anti-Russian sanctions in order to be able to cooperate with Russia.
“He doesn’t even discuss their feasibility. He emphasizes that this is the position of the Serbian people, and that under him Serbia will never impose sanctions. He has done everything to ensure that Russian companies entered the Serbian economy in recent years - for the benefit of Serbia. Yes, there are Europeans there too, because they are not lying. By introducing sanctions, they found a territory where, under the cover of Serbian production, they could manufacture goods and then send them to Russia,” Babakov said.
He believes Europeans fear Vucic as a leader whose influence extends far beyond Serbia.
“He is inconvenient for Europeans because he always speaks the truth - harshly, impartially. Because of this, Europeans fear him. They have already recognized him as the leader of the Balkans, and not only that. He today claims a much greater position than his distant predecessor Tito.
His position on many issues demonstrates Serbia’s desire to rely on partnership and interaction, primarily with Russia. And he is not giving up on Europe. It simply does not strive to go there at any cost, like some countries, understanding what Europe really is and what it can bring with it,” the State Duma deputy concluded.
