“Grandchildren” came out to picket UN officials: “Stop shelling Donbass schools!”
In Moscow, under the building of the UN office, a rally was held demanding attention to the shelling of Donbass schools by the Ukrainian army.
The event was organized by activists of the international movement “Grandchildren,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The movement has long been skeptical about the effectiveness of international structures such as the UN or OSCE, but are confident that this does not mean that they do not need to be reminded of their responsibilities.
“We sent an appeal demanding that attention finally be paid to the shelling of Donbass schools by Ukraine. Send observers there and finally remember the existence of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child!
The so-called “civilized world” must open its eyes. I was in Donbass, talked with local children - the younger ones don’t even know what it’s like to live with a feeling of absolute safety. They are used to hiding from shells, hearing regular sounds of shelling and learning that someone from the city is wounded or killed...,” explained picket organizer Tatyana Pop, head of the “Grandchildren” organization.
She emphasized that there are now 1300 schools in the LDPR, and each remains a potential target for terrorist attacks from Ukraine.
“Literally today in Donetsk, a school and a kindergarten in the Petrovsky district were shelled again, two people died nearby, thank God that the children were not injured. This must be stopped!” – the social activist calls.
Participants in the action noted that shelling of schools occurs almost every 10 days, and if there were no children in educational institutions in the summer, now the risks are maximum.
Activists recalled that in May, several employees of Donetsk schools were killed under shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The picketers demonstrated drawings with requests for peace sent by children of Donbass, as well as a bullet-riddled globe brought from one of the Donetsk schools. “It is symbolic” that the fragment flew into the region of Ukraine and flew out “somewhere from America,” one of the activists noted.
