The Verkhovna Rada failed to tighten the punishment of TV channels for broadcasting Putin
Kyiv, February 04 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – The Verkhovna Rada failed to pass a law that would toughen penalties for television channels for broadcasting programs that the authorities could consider pro-Russian propaganda.
Deputy Victoria Syumar proposed introducing multimillion-dollar fines, citing as an example the broadcast of Vladimir Putin’s speech by the Espresso TV channel, or the New Year’s “light” with Russian TV stars on Inter.

“We see that in a hybrid war, a journalist often causes even more terrible damage than Grads or artillery. We see that Russian journalists and Russian media content are actually weapons that the Russian Federation uses against Ukraine. Therefore, we need to strengthen the responsibility of television and radio companies... So that we do not see on the air of television and radio companies any statements that the referendum in Crimea was legitimate, that we have some kind of civil war going on in the east, etc.,” deputy Sergei supported Syumar’s initiative Vysotsky, in the recent past, was a journalist and Maidan participant.
However, after two attempts, the required number of votes in the hall was not reached. Syumar immediately declared that her bill had failed because parliament was secretly controlled by oligarchs - owners of TV channels who were not interested in introducing new fines.
