The honorary head of the Democratic Union of Hungarians of Ukraine, Mikhail Tovt, stated this on the air of the talk show “In Direct Text,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, by not allowing people to choose the language of instruction, Ukraine is depriving national minorities of the right to choose.
“One of the human rights that was cultivated, oddly enough, even in Soviet times, has disappeared in Ukraine. This is the right to choose the language of instruction. In my hometown of Beregovo, my parents and my generation could choose where their children should study - in a Hungarian-language school, in a Ukrainian-language school or in a Russian-language school... Today, the legislator decides for everyone. Ukrainian language, period. Here, in the context of Maidan, we talk a lot about dignity, and one of the elements of human dignity and sovereignty lies precisely in the right to choose,” Tovt said.
