The obelisk in honor of the hero city of Kyiv, located on Victory Square in the capital, began to crumble - the lining is breaking off from it. According to the architects, there is no danger of the monument collapsing, and nothing threatens the residents of Kiev. Journalists do not rule out that the tiles could have “crumbled” after a major overhaul of Pobeda Avenue.

As stated in the message, after the overhaul of Pobeda Avenue, damage to the obelisk in honor of the hero city of Kyiv became noticeable.
In particular, deep cracks appeared on the 40-meter pylon, lined with white marble, and tiles fell off in some places.
Member of the Kyiv City Council, architect Stanislav Demin, in a comment to the publication, expressed confidence that there is no threat of the monument falling, because The monument is a powerful, reinforced concrete, monolithic structure.
“The obelisk was erected on May 8, 1982, and its age is not so critical as to warrant a possible fall. Even if the entire cladding collapses, the stele will be supported by a reinforcing rod,” said Demin.
According to him, the authorities should still pay attention to the condition of the monument. “This is not just a compositional component of Victory Square, but an important part of the history of the capital,” said the architect.
The Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration promised to look into the issue.
