This was reported by the website Krym.Realii.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was going to drive up the hill into the densely populated Crimean Tatar village of Fontana. At that moment, a bang was heard, followed by a strong explosion.
The driver, Rustem, whose house is located several tens of meters from the scene of the incident, was thrown out of the car, but he was able to get up on his own and run towards the house. The victim has severe burns.
The blast wave broke glass in an apartment in a 10-story building. Parts of the car were scattered several meters away. Some suggested that a gas cylinder was installed in the car and allegedly caused the explosion. However, it was not there, since the car runs on gasoline.
According to eyewitnesses, the nature of the explosion indicates that an explosive could have been placed in the car.
No one except the Daewoo driver, who was hospitalized by ambulance, was injured.
Emergency services and police officers arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished, but by that time the Daewoo had burned down.
The Investigation Department of the RF Investigative Committee for the Republic of Crimea has opened a criminal case regarding the car explosion. According to the acting senior assistant to the head of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Andrei Vasilkov, the preliminary version of the explosion of a gas cylinder was not confirmed.
“A criminal case has been opened under the article of attempted murder in a generally dangerous manner, as well as intentional damage to someone else’s property and illegal trafficking in explosives,” said a representative of the department.
