Representatives of the “writing fraternity” laid flowers and wreaths at the eternal flame on Nakhimov Square.
“On May 5, Press Day was celebrated in the Soviet Union. That is why today we decided to remember those who, “with a watering can and a notepad,” risking their lives, conveyed to people information about the most terrible events of our history,” said Sergei Gorbachev, chairman of the board of the Sevastopol branch of the Union of Journalists of Russia.
According to the journalist, similar actions are taking place in all cities of Crimea.
Sergei Gorbachev noted that we are talking not only about war correspondents, but also about those who fell victim to attackers in peacetime. As an example, the organizer of the event cited Vladimir Ivanov, the editor of the oldest city newspaper “Glory of Sevastopol”, who was killed by fighters of one of the criminal groups on April 14, 1995.
