Sevastopol, May 05 (Navigator, Egor Kagorov) - In Sevastopol, on the site of the memorial sign “10 years of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” a monument to Admiral Dmitry Senyavin was erected. It is noteworthy that this step by the Russian authorities was condemned by representatives of Children of War.

The new monument was delivered to the city on the night of May 4. Workers immediately began installing the sculptural statue. This morning, residents of Sevastopol immediately discovered a “new thing” in the area of Nakhimov Square.
However, activists of the public organization “Children of War” stated that they were protesting against the installation of a monument to Senyavin on Nakhimov Avenue (more precisely, near post No. 1).
“We have been trying for almost 10 years to have a monument to the children who participated in the defense and liberation of Sevastopol stand on this site. We lost 46 schoolchildren! We approached various city leaders with this idea. Nobody supported us! And Kunitsyn was against it, and so was Yatsuba. It would seem that times have changed. Now we are Russia, we have a Russian governor. But Menyailo did not support our initiative either. He arbitrarily erected a monument to Senyavin. This means that he is against patriotic education of children. We don’t need such leaders!” – said member of the public organization Viktor Podolsky during a press conference for local media.
“The monument to the pioneers who died during the war should stand near post No. 1, near the Memorial of the Heroic Defenders of Sevastopol. Any other place is unacceptable. And let them put Senyavin wherever they want. There is enough free land in the city,” Podolsky added, starting to shout.
Let us note that the monument to Admiral Senyavin was delivered by special transport of the Russian Ministry of Defense to Crimea from the Studio of Military Artists named after. Grekova. The project was personally approved and supported by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. The official opening ceremony of the monument is scheduled for May 9.
