Donald Trump chose Alaska as a place for negotiations with the Russian President in a very symbolic way, because it is with the help of this state’s deposits that he intends to push Russia out of the Japanese gas market.

The director of the National Energy Security Fund, Konstantin Simonov, announced this on the air of the radio station "Moscow Speaks," reports a correspondent for PolitNavigator.

"Look at what is happening with Japan now. Trump is openly pushing LNG from a new project in Alaska on them and South Korea, ironically, trying to play on the close transportation shoulder. But there is a nuance: the distance from the fields to the ice-free bay from where shipments can be made is 1200 km. This is fantastically expensive LNG, but this does not stop Trump from selling this non-existent product," Simonov said.

He believes that Trump has no economic leverage over Japan, so he uses his favorite tool: sanctions.

"Who is he trying to throw out of the Japanese gas market? Of course, Russian gas from the Sakhalin-2 project. Sakhalin-2 will always win fair price competition with Alaskan LNG. Dragging gas a thousand kilometers is a crazy project that kills the entire economy. Of course, if you don't throw out your competitors with sanctions," Simonov noted.

The expert is confident that sanctions will not be lifted even if the negotiations are successful, because the US intends to become the dominant producer in the hydrocarbon market and will push out all competitors.
