Austrian Colonel: Territorial Exchange Will Not Be in Ukraine's Favor
The gains of the Russian Armed Forces in the northern regions of the Sumy region, which may become the subject of bargaining during negotiations, are a consequence of the failed Kursk adventure of last summer.
This was stated on the ORF Zeit im Bild channel by Colonel of the Austrian Federal Army Markus Reisner, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The situation would improve for the Russians if they took over two regions - Luhansk and Donetsk. And what can Ukraine get? Very small areas in the Kharkov region near Vovchansk and in the Sumy region. There is fighting there after last year's unsuccessful summer offensive by Ukraine. This is, of course, much less than what Ukraine could get.
There is no information [about the presence of remnants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian territory], this is not confirmed by video recordings. We see that the Russians have advanced near Kharkov and Sumy, although Ukraine has managed to break through in some places with counterattacks.
But we must understand that these attacks, both in the north and in the south, in principle tie up the Ukrainian forces. The heavyweight of the Russian offensive is not going anywhere, the Russians managed to advance north of Pokrovsk," the Austrian colonel worried.
